Terms of Service
1. The software
Vaultlane's server is licensed under AGPL-3.0, and its client apps under MPL-2.0. You can read, audit, modify, and self-host the entire project under those licenses (full license texts will be published alongside the source code). Self-hosted instances are entirely your responsibility; we provide no warranty and no support SLA for them beyond community help.
2. Vaultlane Cloud accounts
If you use the hosted service:
- You're responsible for choosing a strong master password and keeping your Recovery Kit safe. We cannot recover your vault if you lose both. That's the cost of zero-knowledge encryption, and we won't pretend otherwise.
- You're responsible for the accuracy of your account email and for keeping it accessible (it's used for verification and recovery).
- One person or entity per account. Family/team plans (when available) will have their own terms for shared seats.
- You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction.
3. Acceptable use
Don't use Vaultlane to store or transmit unlawful content, attempt to disrupt or gain unauthorized access to our systems, or resell/rebrand Vaultlane Cloud without permission. Self-hosting and forking under the open-source licenses is explicitly fine and encouraged.
4. Availability & no warranty
Vaultlane Cloud is currently pre-alpha and provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, including uptime, data durability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Once we exit pre-alpha we intend to publish an uptime target and backup policy here.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vaultlane and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the software or service, including loss of data resulting from a lost master password and Recovery Kit.
5. Fees
Self-hosting is free forever under the open-source licenses, no feature gating. Vaultlane Cloud may charge for hosted convenience (storage, sync, support); pricing, if and when introduced, will be posted at vaultlane.app and won't change retroactively for existing subscriptions without notice.
6. Termination
You may delete your account at any time, which permanently deletes your data per our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate section 3, with notice where practical.
7. Changes
We'll update the "last updated" date above for changes to these terms and, for material changes, notify account holders by email before the change takes effect. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
8. Governing law
To be finalized once Vaultlane is operated through a registered legal entity. Until then, these terms are a good-faith description of how the project intends to operate, not a substitute for legal advice.
Contact
This document has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer and will be finalized before Vaultlane Cloud accepts real user data or payments.
